On the eve of the FAB

Well, the 2008 season is upon us. The Free Agent Blitz starts tomorrow and I can't wait.

This is the second year of the Koufax Champion League. Last year, I finished in a whopping 10th place (6688 total points), but I feel that I have a pretty good base heading into the new year.

The league was pretty competive last year with the last place team averaging 260+ points a game, both top seeds were eliminated in the playoffs, and the 4th seed won the trophy (6603 total points). Another irony is that the second highest points total (7552 total points) finished in 7th. Talk about some bad luck, or good strategy, your choice.

So far, this PRE-FAB has been defined by the have's and have not's. Either you have some players and a little money (16 players, 20 mil avg FAB budget), or you exercised the firesale and have a lot of money and no players. Five teams have exercised their Fire Sale rights, which I am thankful for. At least now there will be some possible stars released into the mainstream. I chose not to exercise the option. I just couldn't let Webb, Felix, Berkman, Manny, B. Roberts, Furcal (off year, but I think he will bounce back) slip back into the fold especially with my prospects including A Jones, C Gomez, and C Gonzalez signed at the minimum for 3 years.

Going into the FAB, I have around 25 mil to play with, and I have a few holes to plug, but it should be doable as long as I don't get starry eyed and look at a certain 3B named Arod sitting there at the front of the FAB. Do I really need pitchers?

It will be interesting to see how inflation affects this year's top picks. Speaking of which, I need to do some last minute calc's.

Good Luck and may your BRZ's be few..
